Dryden WoodOil

Dryden WoodOil is a water-repellent, non-filming, timber protector. It’s a true migrating oil, that migrates deep into the timber. Dryden WoodOil’s water repelling properties prevent the absorption of water deep into the timber, helping to reduce excessive warping, cupping, and splitting of timber, thus extending the life span of those timbers.

Dryden WoodOil is made in New Zealand and specially designed for our conditions. It is suitable to be applied to timber cladding, shingle roofs, fencing and many other exterior situations, along with specific interior finishing. Dryden WoodOil can be applied to most species of timber, old, new, rough or smooth.

Dryden Colourtone+ are available in a range of colours to help maintain and complement timber character without hiding the grain while adding UV protection if added to Dryden WoodOil Clear. If applied in clear for natural finishing, Dryden WoodOil allows timbers to silver and weather but maintain water repellency.

For walk-on and high-wear exterior surfaces made from unseasoned timber, such as timber decking, Dryden recommends Dryden OilStain.

No. When applying Dryden WoodOil to new timber, one coat should be applied now and the second coat 30-90 days after (depending on WoodOil used and climate conditions of your timber). When applying after a strong wash, add a second coat after 3-6 months.

No. Dryden WoodOil is a migrating oil, which means it will not penetrate through film building products. Additionally, if Dryden WoodOil is used with or over the top of another product, guarantees and warranties will not be able to be honoured on either of the products.

Re-application of Dryden WoodOil coatings will depend on environmental factors and exposure of your timber. Generally speaking, re-apply Dryden WoodOil to areas where colour is fading up to two years after initial coatings. WoodOil Clear allows your timber to silver and weather naturally, and may not need reapplication for up to two years after initial coatings in high sun areas the for subsequent maintenance up to three years.

Dryden WoodOil does not dry, rather it has to migrate into the timber away from the surface (in it, not on it). If the ‘wet look’ has not disappeared by the next day or day after, too much Dryden WoodOil has been applied or you have applied it over a film build type product. Draw off excess with the method that it was applied or move to areas that it will migrate into, but do not use a rag as this will remove the colour.

This is normal and is showing signs of maintenance. When even and consistent in look, do a soft wash (without removing the coating) and re-coat (1 coat only) over the chalky coating. This will rejuvenate the coating making it good again. When the colour is patchy do a strong wash then recoat with a second coat 3-6 months. Refer Dryden WoodOil Cleaning & Maintenance guide for cleaning methods.

No. WoodOil and WoodMaster are different products used for different purposes. WoodOil is a water-repellent, non-filming timber protector while WoodMaster is a decorative, low-build wood stain. Visit our Product Picker to find out which one is right for your timber.
